Target Audience: Everyone involved with hospital or ambulatory center surgical services or facility safety including: Risk Managers, Patient Safety Professionals, Facility Safety Managers, Quality Managers, Chief Operating Officers, Directors of Operating Rooms, Operating Room Staff, Compliance Staff.
Program Description: There are an estimated 550 to 650 surgical fires per year in operating rooms in the U.S. Despite the fact that the root causes of surgical fires are well-understood, surgical fires still occur. Many healthcare organizations have developed tools, implemented strategies, and conducted education and outreach efforts to reduce the risk of fires. During this program, FDA experts will briefly discuss the ‘Preventing Surgical Fires’ Initiative. Invited hospital staff will share their experiences and protocols used to prevent surgical fires. Surgical Fire prevention recommendations will also be presented.
