Grant Wilson is the Surgical Technology program director at Calhoun Community College. He has worked in healthcare since 1992 and has been a Certified Surgical Technologist and member of the Association of Surgical Technologists since 1999. Also, in 1999, Wilson completed a master of education degree. A year later, he started the surgical technology program where he teaches and has expanded it to serve fourteen hospitals and surgery centers in the north Alabama area. Currently, Wilson is pursuing a Doctor of Education degree through the College of Graduate Health Sciences at A.T. Still University.
At the state level, Grant Wilson organized the formation of the Alabama State Assembly of AST and has participated in several leadership positions. He has also served at the national level as a presenter at the AST Educator's conference, AST National Conference. Wilson has served on AST committees, including chair of the State Assembly Leadership Committee and president of the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting board of directors. Additionally, he has served as an on-site evaluator for the Accreditation Review Council for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
Recently, Wilson was appointed by the Association of Surgical Technologists to represent the organization as a member of the Council on Surgical and Perioperative Safety. He is particularly excited about this opportunity as he is passionate about educating surgical technology students to value the safe and compassionate care of surgical patients.
